Wire ropes used in crane systems are safety-critical components that are continuously exposed to high mechanical loads and therefore subject to wear. If regular inspections indicate that a wire rope has reached its discard criteria, continued operation of the system may present significant safety concerns.

Magnetic inductive rope testing is the preferred method for the non-destructive inspection of steel wire ropes. It enables internal defects to be detected and helps determine whether a rope has reached its discard criteria in accordance with DIN ISO 4309, thereby supporting safe system operation.

In accordance with Section 26, Paragraph 1 of DGUV Regulation 52 “Cranes,” cranes must be inspected by a qualified person in accordance with DGUV Principle 309-001 as required by their operating conditions and usage, but at least once a year.

How It Works

• Magnetization: The wire rope is magnetized to saturation using a magnetic field. Internal and external defects alter the magnetic field and generate leakage fields.
• Measurement: Sensors detect these leakage fields and transfer the data to measurement and analysis software.
